St. George Medical School (SGU) was founded as an independent learning institution in the beautiful island of Grenada in 1976. With students and faculty from over 140 countries and over 11,000 graduates, it has an impressive student alumni network and has attained a strong level of prestige within the US, Canada, and UK as a strong academic institution.

Educational structure:

Basic Sciences (5 semesters)

The medical education core of 5 semesters (2 years) take place on the St. George campus in Grenada and is based on the US medical education curriculum.

Clinical Rotations (5 semesters)

The clinical rotations section of St. Georges program takes place over 80 weeks. The clinical rotations can be completed at affiliate hospitals within the United Kingdom or United States, depending on preference.

The last published statistics for USMLE first time pass rate by St. George Medical School was in 2010 with a first time pass rate of 92%. The national average of first time USMLE Step 1 Pass rates for US Medical School graduates is 92%.

Campus Specifics:

Application Process:

St. George Medical School utilizes a web-based or paper application. A school specific essay also required upon submitting application.

Along with the essay, all transcripts, a passport photo, a committee letter and /or 2 recommendation letters and MCAT Scores are required.

The committee will meet and evaluate your application. Upon completion of candidate review, you will be notified by post and telephone, if you are accepted or solely by post, if you are rejected.

St. George University is eligible for United States Department of Education based loans. This is known as the William D. Ford Title IV Direct Federal Loan program.

It consists of:
1. Subsidized loans - are federal need-based loans with an $8,500 per year cap
2. Unsubsidized loans - are normal federal loans with a $11,500 per year cap
3. Graduate plus loans - will cover any amount, not covered by subsidized or unsubsidized loans.

Other St. George Medical Programs:

St George School of Veterinary Medicine – St George University established the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999 and it has gained a considerable study body in this short time. It received full accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in 2011 and all graduates are licensed to practice in the United States. Eligible practicing locations are also UK, Canada, Australia and Ireland.


Basic Sciences (6 semesters):

$16,685 /semester

Clinical Sciences (4 semesters):

$19,734 / Semester
